Last week’s launch of the Big Energy Week is continuing to help people and businesses save money on their energy bills, the Kincardineshire Observer reports.

The launch of a tips website, bigenergyweek.org, is attempting to help bill payers who feel they are alarmingly out of pocket at the end of each quarter by advising them on a number of money-saving tricks.

Comparing tariffs and improving your insulation

For example, customers should check they are on the best tariff available with their energy supplier and, if their best offer is not good enough, visit an accredited switching website to see if they could get cheaper energy elsewhere. Furthermore, wall insulation – such as interior wall cladding – could help save money in the long-term.

Energy saving methods

Even little things like turning off lights and switching off appliances at the wall could help save money. Figures show that turning thermostats down by a mere one degree can cut heating bills by £60 on average, according to the Cumnock Chronicle.

Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, commented:

“We’re worried that some people are struggling unnecessarily because they’re not on the best deal, live in homes that haemorrhage heat, or are not getting all of the financial help available to them.

“Through Big Energy Week we hope to help lots of people cut their fuel bills and ease their money worries.”
