Businesses to have access to Green Deal from autumn
From autumn this year, businesses will have access to the efficiency services on offer from the Green Deal, businessgreen.com reports.
Previous suspicions that businesses would have to wait for support have been quashed by the announcement, which was made by an unnamed Whitehall source.
Green Deal energy makeover
While it is true that commercial applicants for Green Deal makeovers may have to go through a longer assessment period, the fact that this process won’t be delayed should be positive news.
Another source knowledgeable about the Green Deal explained that whilst high-intensity outfits may not benefit as much, businesses which have “significant energy use from air conditioning, computers etc.” should find an energy makeover useful. It may even be that such companies are offered access to building cladding, insulation or other services to make their property run more efficiently.
Education of the benefits key to it’s success
However in order to ensure businesses recognise this benefit, it is up to the government and the energy industry to educate them. That’s according to Vince Matthews, head of marketing at an energy management firm.
He spoke to Hvnplus.co.uk about the situation, claiming that the energy company needs clarification from government regarding what exactly will be on offer as part of the Green Deal. Once this has been given, the industry can then go on to educate businesses and home-owners, he believes.

My main worry with the Green Deal is the fact the homeowners will be expected to repay the loans made to them. A 7.5% interest rate is simply too high.
