The Mayor of London launches new innovative build scheme
Architectural excellence is being put at the heart of a new £8m fund by the mayor of London Boris Johnson, reports freshbusinessthinking.com.
Under the Build Your Own Home – The London Way scheme, Londoners can now apply for loans or grants from the custom build scheme in order to develop innovatively designed or community facilities.
Improving the capital’s neighbourhoods
From steel roofing to multiple staircases, the Mayor is keen to hear what can be used in the design as well as how employment opportunities – training, apprenticeships, internships and more – can be delivered as part of the project.
In addition, the Mayor has enlisted the help of a number of leading London architects to help refine their ideas into projects to help improve the capital’s neighbourhoods.
Johnson commented on the scheme to bdonline.co.uk:
“As we seek to establish a new vernacular for our capital in the 21st century, this project will put Londoners themselves right at the heart of the creative process.”
“Whether it’s new self-build homes or a much needed community facility, we want to see really innovative ideas coming forward. With the help of the top industry experts we have on board, there’s never been a better opportunity to help shape the neighbourhood in which you live,” he added.
