Building in its Environment

A building may seek to blend in with or create a new perspective within its local environment. The envelope in providing the external face of the building will play a key role in the delivery of this and as such needs careful consideration. Many factors will influence both the acceptability and specification of particular materials for the building envelope such as colour and overall appearance, planning issues and sustainability considerations. Appearance & Colour

Here we set out to explore dynamics of colour and form in architecture they can be used effectively to express different aspects of the building design. Working closely paint suppliers and researchers, Corus regularly assesses the potential of new paint colours effects and their application for pre-finished envelopes. A brief outline of some of the emerging technologies and recent Corus Colorcoat® developments are included to highlight this.

Sustainability

The sustainability of a building in terms of its material usage, construction, occupation and end of life is becoming a more important consideration. This is being driven by the world’s desire to provide a better quality of life for people and protect the needs of future generations.

Pre-finished Steel

Steel has come a long way since its early use for corrugated roofing. It has evolved into pre-finished steel where a number of paint layers are applied in an automated and carefully controlled manufacturing process.
