The Future of Colour

The Future of Colour

Good news. The future world of colour in Europe will be bright, shimmering and full of special effects. We are undergoing a transition from a particular brand of dreariness to an emotionally-uplifting colour world.

The first sign of this coming change in Europe came at fashion shows and textile fairs. Positivity, opulence, extravagance and openness are the impulses which are currently conveyed to us by fashion and design and which, in the near future, will be more apparent in a new and positive-thinking society.

Colours are an important element in this because they can have a major effect, they can bring out a zest for life, optimism, and emotion. Open the windows and allow the gentle breeze and rays of sunlight to enter into your life. Open up your heart for a better and more satisfied world.

When it comes to looking at the future of colour design, however, a number of trends can already be discerned.

Rich colours with shining mica effects stand in contrast to a tender, feminine gentleness produced by fine effect pigments. Coarse, metallic, masculine colour effects for the standard colours of silver and grey are contrasted with soft and feminine cream white effects and bright, colourful shades. All are equal as they stand next to one another.

The transition towards the networking of technology, architecture, science and design is under way. Material research, process engineering, natural sciences, design and art are coming together more and more. This networking produces lively, shimmering, and changing colour and material concepts and, in doing so, helps to promote a positive change in our society. Moreover, without curiosity and creativity or the search for new designs and possibilities to further develop the world of colours, our world would be much poorer.

So how will the important colours be changing?

Silvers and greys These will move from high-tech silver to soft metallic chalky shades of white, from standard silver-grey to shimmering, bright playful effects. There will also be a move from masculine, anthracite grey to silky soft shimmering satin-grey and mystically deep and magical nuances of black.

Blue Here the shift will be from deep classic midnight blue to the illuminated shades of blue of the 1950s and 60s and the light, fresh, exhilarating watercolours of the South Seas - like gold-turquoise, light blue, and bright blue-green.

Red Reds will go from plain red to sensuously exotic - emotional, passionate, optimistic, bright, full of special effects. Also to sporty orange-red and elegantly dark garnet red and discrete variations of violet.

Beige Lastly, this colour set will make the transition from neutral beige to powdery, poetical golden orange, and warm autumn browns.
