Kids of Steel come to Mold

Kids of Steel come to Mold

28 Jun 2010

As part of the Corus sponsorship of the British Triathlon Federation, Corus Colors were delighted to host its first ‘Corus Kids of Steel’ Triathlon. And with over 400 children registered it was the largest ‘Kids of Steel’ event in Wales.

Corus embarked on its fourth year of a partnership with British Triathlon that is committed through to 2013. Nearly 20,000 children to date have experienced triathlon at these events. Mold marks the twelfth event in the 2010 Corus Kids of Steel series, which visited 15 venues in total and reach more children than it ever has in previous years.

Corus Kids of Steel Triathlons

The Corus Kids of Steel Triathlons were open to all local school children between the ages of 10 and 13 (years 5 to 8) to participate in the fun event that combined the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. Although the majority of children attending were from the onsite Maes Garmon School and Mold Alun School, the event attracted participants from further afield such as a group from Warrington primary schools and Haydock High School.

British Triathlon Regional Programme Manager for the North West, Rob Bishop, organised the event along with Corus, and went out to local schools to rally support, aiming to deliver a fun and healthy day for young people. He said, “The event was a chance for children to take part in a sport that they might not get exposed to at school. It gave them the opportunity to take part in a fun, safe and non-competitive environment at a sport that is for everyone.”

To make the whole event accessible bikes, helmets and t-shirts were provided, so children only needed to turn up with a pair of trainers and some swimming attire. Volunteers from Corus Colors, Corus Panels and Profiles and Corus Living Solutions all helped at the event to make sure it is a complete success.

British Triathlon Federation

Chief Executive Officer of the British Triathlon Federation Zara Hyde Peters said, “We are delighted that we were once again able to provide children with an early experience of triathlon.

“In conjunction with our Corporate Partner, Corus, we take great pride in providing a fun, active and enjoyable day that creates opportunities for children to achieve their personal triathlon challenges while keeping a big smile on their faces.”
