Corus sponsor leading global architectural practice event.

19 Mar 2008

Corus is one of the proud sponsors of the forthcoming Grimshaw at the Design Museum event in London. Grimshaw, one of the country’s most renowned architectural practices, is highlighting the work of celebrated designer Jean Prouvé by inviting architectural schools and key steel industry workers to the ongoing  Jean Prouvé; Poetics of the Technical Object exhibit.

The exhibition of Jean Prouvé’s work sets out to prove that craft and industry are not mutually exclusive. His early work as a blacksmith helped further this connection, teaching him the technical properties of metal, and its artistic value. It is this 'hands on' approach that continues to influence Grimshaw’s work today, helping the practice to understand the materials they work with and develop quality design solutions.

Grimshaw is a habitual user of steel; not least due to the fact that it is one of the most sustainable materials available. Their ethos of understanding the materials used on the projects they are involved with gives them a greater understanding of the products and their end use applications.

It is certainly an approach Corus take across all its business units, not least Shotton based Corus Colors, manufacturers of pre-finished steel for the building envelope. The company pride themselves on their ability to pass on the knowledge they have accrued over 40 years in relation to building envelope design right the way down the supply chain to the end user. Advances in product design from both a technological and sustainable perspective enables Corus to continuously provide the construction industry with optimum design materials and expert advice.
Grimshaw at the Design Museum – The Jean Prouvé exhibition - runs until April 13th 2008.
