Corus architects seminars a success

Corus hosted a series of sustainability seminars aimed at architects in the UK and Ireland this autumn. The seminars featured speakers from the UK Government, Sustainable Energy Ireland, and leading architectural practices. Corus gave an introduction to Confidex Sustain™ the world’s first cradle to grave CarbonNeutral building envelope. The presentations focused on key sustainability issues which will affect the choices specifiers make in the future. George Ferguson chaired the seminars, in London and Manchester, whilst Sandra O’Connell, editor of Architecture Ireland chaired the Dublin event.

In London, Jeremy Sumeray, Co - Project Manager for the UK Sustainable Construction Strategy, Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, discussed present and future sustainability legislation: The impact on the industry.

In Manchester, Paul King highlighted the need for embracing the challenge of sustainability on the built environment. Paul is the Chief Executive of the UK Green Building Council. Chris Nash, Managing Partner at Grimshaw Architects Ltd. presented at both London and Manchester and provided the architect’s perspective on how sustainability is considered in the design process and then executed on the building project.

In Dublin, Eamon McCarney, Managing Director, Taylor Architects - a Carbon Neutral practice, provided an insight into sustainable design and construction from both the specifiers’ and clients’ perspective. Kevin O’Rourke, Head of Sustainable Energy Ireland discussed how best to embrace the challenge of sustainability in the built environment.

All of the seminars featured Rodney Rice, Product Development Manager at Corus Colors. He illustrated ways in which Corus are working with the supply chain on sustainability and introduced Confidex Sustain™.

RKD Architects found value in attending the Dublin seminar commenting “It’s interesting to hear how companies like Corus are addressing sustainability issues from the products they manufacture to the research they undertake on issues like air-tightness”. All of the seminars were well attended and feedback from the architects regarding Confidex Sustain™ at the events was positive.
