Frequently Asked Questions

At Colorcoat Urban™ we are always here to help. Below you will find the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
Q: Would there be any advantage in using Colorcoat Urban™ if I was trying to gain level 3 or 4 code for sustainable homes?
A: YES. With at least 20% recycled material, a green guide rating of A+, pans designed to gather rain for water harvesting and the coating allowing for greater use of the harvested water within the building, Colorcoat Urban™ has been specified where sustainable levels of 4,5 and 6 are to be attained.
Q: What is the Guarantee for the system?
A: The material has a 40 year weatherproof guarantee directly from Corus, and the roof system also has a 15 year installation guarantee if the installer is approved and has purchased all the components from Corus.
Q: Can we curve the pan along the standing seam?
A: The Urban system has been designed to minimise work on site and remove the need to hand crimp (necessary on curved roofs) thus giving a very significant reduction to the laid cost and contractors time on site. In addition to this, the detailing for curved roofs is bespoke and adds to the cost considerably, which goes against the ethos of what we are trying to accomplish with Colorcoat Urban™. Therefore to get the best value from the Urban system, we would not recommend the system be used where curves are a feature of the roof.
Q: Can roofline products be sourced to match the colour of the roof?
A: YES. We produce fascias, soffits and barge boards to match the roof, all with Colorcoat Urban™ extensive guarantess. The gutters are also available in powder coated matching colours and these are available from Marley Alutec.
Q: Can the system accommodate hips and valleys?
A: YES. Hip and valley details along with ridge, verge and eave details are all provided as part of the Colorcoat Urban™ System.
Q: Can the system be fitted along with roof windows and roof penetrations?
A: YES. Along with the window manufacturers flashing kits. Roof Penetrations are fitted with appropriate gaskets and seals.
Q: Is the roof noisy?
A: NO noisier than standard slate, concrete or clay tile. Because the roof system requires a substrate of SIP Panel, Ply or OSB Board, the transfer of airborne noise is in many cases less than the alternative materials.
Q: Can the Colorcoat Urban™ system allow for the fitting of photovoltaic or solar panels?
A: YES: The strength of the system along the standing seam and the specification to which all Colorcoat Urban™ roofs are fitted, means that we are able to clamp the panels onto the exterior of the roof without needing to go through the substrate into the body of the building. The only penetrations necessary are to take the power/heat into the building. Perhaps even more pertinent is the ease with which PV/Solar panels can be retrofitted with minimum disturbance to the roof structure, helping to make the roof future proof.
Q: Does the roof absorb and transfer heat into the building below more than alternative roof covering?
A: NO. Because of the unique coating, which is exclusive to Corus, much of the infrared heat is reflected away from the building. Some of the colours within the Colorcoat Urban™ range are so efficient that Corus technicians had to devise new tests that are far more stringent than the industry norm, in order to register accurate test results.
