Paignton Library Ready to Open

25 Aug 2010
Paignton’s new library and information resource, including Adult & Community Learning, Community Police and Torbay Council Connections team, is due to open its doors to the public on Monday 13 September.
Colorcoat Urban™ was chosen as the roofing solution for this project, which was designed by Kensington Taylor – Chartered Architects, ran by BAM Construction and worked on by Progressive Systems Ltd.
The building was designed to have an aged copper aesthetic and this was achieved using Patina (a colour from the Colorcoat Urban™ range). This colour has proven to be popular for Corus, especially for projects such as Churches, Schools, Crematoriums and Libraries.
The building features unique diagonal, vertical and horizontal cladding, as well as soffit and mansard detailing and bespoke fabrications around the windows.

The new Centre will not only be a fabulous modern library, community resource and cafe, it will also be a cultural feast, with contemporary artists bringing some very special features to the building.
The new Library & Information Centre will have 2 special guests arriving on its first day of operation. In one of the highlights of this year’s Agatha Christie Festival, Mathew Prichard, grandson of Agatha Christie and John Curran, author of Agatha Christie’s
Secret Notebooks, will offer insights into the life and works of the Queen of Crime.
The talk will be followed by questions, with tea and a special birthday cake to mark the 120th Anniversary of Agatha Christie’s birth. Tickets for the event cost £4.00 and are available from the current Paignton Library, Torquay Library and the Tourist Information Office on 01803 408358.
