Performance differences between products with plastisol coatings are further illustrated, comparing the colour retention of a generic plastisol with Colorcoat HPS200® after exposure to accelerated UV ageing.
Colour stability
As an example, the chart shows the results of a five-year weathering test of four topcoats. This has shown dramatic differences in the way colours and paint formulations behave. In each case the plastisol topcoat gave the best colour-retention.
Colour retention
Pre-finished steel products used within the construction industry are made up of a series of layers, each with a particular function, synergistically applied to provide the functional and aesthetic performance required. The product consists of a metal base, known as the substrate, a metallic layer, and then layers of pretreatment and primer before a final topcoat is applied to the top and bottom surface.
Layers diagram
The cost of the pre-finished steel is only a small part of the cost of an installed cladding system, so changes in the pre-finished steel specification have a relatively small effect on the overall system cost. As an example, the chart shows the difference in installed cost of a typical built-up cladding system for the four most widely specified Colorcoat® products.
