Corus has over 40 years’ experience in the manufacture of pre-finished steel through the Colorcoat® brand. Concern for the environment in which we work is one of our key business principles. Our objectives are to adopt sustainable practices and to continuously improve our performance. Colorcoat® provides the recognised mark of quality and metal envelope expertise from Corus. Our expertise and knowledge extends to CPD Seminars run by a dedicated specification team. Sustainability and the building envelope This CPD offers an invaluable insight into the sustainable nature of steel itself, and how this can be related to the metal building envelope. It guides the specifier through the complete manufacturing process and details all the phases of the Life Cycle Anaysis of steel from "Cradle to Cradle". CPD includes: -
Corus Colors overview. -
Drivers for sustainability. -
The impact of the steel manufacturing process. -
Life Cycle Analysis. -
Environmental Product Declarations (EPD's). -
Progress in sustainable steel manufacture. -
Carbon offsetting. -
Confidex Sustain™ - The world’s first cradle to cradle CarbonNeutral building envelope Pre-finished steel for roof and wall cladding This seminar highlights the role of pre-finished steel in architecture, and explains the importance of specifying both the pre-finished steel as well as the cladding system to generate the optimum final specification. CPD includes: -
Definition of a pre-finished steel product -
Manufacturing process -
Key issues to consider when specifying pre-finished steel: - corrosion performance - aesthetic performance - robustness - Health & Safety and impact of CDM Regulations/Working at Height Directive -
Maintenance requirements / impact on building life cycle costs -
Performance statements and guarantees -
Colour - solid and metallic effects -
Sustainability and environmental impact Duration: 1 hour *Corus factory tour is 170 minutes Also available: Literature Material samples Areas covered: UK Northern Ireland Republic of Ireland Importance of air-tightness in non-domestic buildings This seminar demonstrates where the air-leakage paths in a steel building envelope are, and shows that when correctly specified and installed, both built-up and composite systems can help meet the requirements of ADL2A (2006). And, although U values remain the same, significant improvements in air-tightness of buildings will have to be made if the required 23.5% to 28% reduction in CO2 is to be met. CPD includes: -
The relationship between the 2006 and the 2002 regulations & minimum expected levels of performance. -
The impact of air-tightness and its importance when demonstrating compliance. -
Guidance on the use of pre-finished steel in the building envelope, and how the systems available perform. Corus factory tour This CPD takes the visitor on a tour of Europe's largest pre-finished steel manufacturing facility, at Corus Colors*, Shotton Works, Deeside. The guided tour encompasses all aspects of the production process, starting at the Railhead, then onto the Galvanising Lines and finishing at the Colorcoat® Lines. The finished Colorcoat® product, pre-finished steel coils of up to 20t in weight, are used by the leading UK profilers to produce high quality roof and wall cladding systems, both 'composite' and 'built up'. The tour is completed by a technical presentation, which provides additional detail about the manufacture, testing, specification and utilisation of the products. The total duration of the visit is half a day. *Corus Colors is a key business unit within the Corus group. |
