House and Office Courage

House and Office Courage in Apeldoorn features Colorcoat HPS200® (Now superseded by Colorcoat HPS200® Ultra) in black for the roof and walls and is a stunning example of how traditionally industrial material and building methods are used to realize this home and office.

When asked about the choice of steel cladding and in particular, Corus Colorcoat HPS200® for this project, Lars’ focus was two fold. Firstly, as the desired colour was black, superior UV resistance was paramount. As Lars comments, with poorer quality pre-finished steel, the black can start to chalk and eventually fade to Grey after long periods of exposure to the sun. Furthermore, Colorcoat HPS200® is guaranteed for up to 30 years (now 40 years with Colorcoat HPS200® Ultra).

Another key factor in the choice of Colorcoat HPS200® was down to the unique scintilla emboss. Lars enthuses that the emboss was ideal in order to minimise the entrapment of dirt on the cladding. Due to their deeper emboss, standard leathergrain products attract and hold dirt which can eventually lead to a breakdown of the coating.

The choice of black for the building envelope blends in well and is adapted by its more classical  surrounding. This has been achieved by the use of simple and logical forms, a high level of detailing and the avoidance of excessiveness in appearance.
