ProLogis Pineham

Based in Pineham, Northampton, the new 618,500 sq ft distribution centre is being developed by ProLogis using a number of advanced features designed to markedly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions at the site. Indeed, architects, RPS Group,based in Newark, estimates that carbon emissions will be reduced by at least 50%, with the overall operation being up to 75% more energy-efficient than a standard warehouse facility.

As Roger Burnley, Sainsbury's Head of Supply Chain, explains: "We recognise that virtually every business decision we make has an impact on the environment, and that we can minimise that impact by improving our stores and business facilities, reducing packaging, promoting recycling and improving transport. We're extremely pleased that so many sustainable design features will be incorporated into our new distribution facility at Pineham."

By specifying a pre-finished steel building envelope at the outset, the sustainability credentials of the project are already exceptionally high.
