Specifying a durable product
In specifying pre-finished steel cladding, it is important to match up the durability requirements of the specific project with the cladding product used. In particular, the following questions should be asked:
- Is there anything in the external environment of the building which will promote corrosion or degradation, e.g. salt-water, chemicals or pollutants, abrasives or particularly strong sunlight?
- Is there anything in the internal environment which demands special attention in coating selection?
- Does the cladding use pre-finished steel tested to the extremes under international standard testing regimes?
- Has the entire coating system been developed synergistically to give the optimum performance?
